Filtration replacement - Day One Monday

The big Monday has arrived when we start the replacement of all the filtration in the filter house.

First things first was draining the pond by filling up the four vats with pond water and re homing the koi. Each vat has two air pumps and air stones connected just to be fully protected in case of failure.

The netting of the koi with Craig and Tony went really well. As you can see Craig certainly doesn't mind getting wet to get the job done!

The koi have been separated into three of the vats with one for keepers, one for those that I will move on and another for those that I'm unsure about. The largest fourth vat is just being used to store pond water as this will reduce the amount of time needed to fill up the pond.

It's amazing how deep (7.5ft at the sides down to 8ft by the bottom drains) the pond actually is when you see it almost empty and I can't wait to have clear water once the drum gets fitted.

Within the filter house there has been a lot of progress today with all the old pipework bring removed and the sieves being taken out. The original value of what has just been taken out is really upsetting because it cost so much last year.

Once all the removal happened Simon and Neil were able the start installing the new swept bends onto the 4" pipework (top middle of the picture below) from the two bottom drains and two skimmer lines. The drum is now also down in the filter house (currently resting behind the stairs) and the new four 4" pipes will be connecting into it in the next few days.

With the four connectors in place the Simon and Neil were really pleased with their day of progress.

As a final bit of good news for the day, Craig managed to pick up and delivered the custom made steel frames for the two bakki showers and the header tank which was a day ahead of schedule.
